We understand this tree comes at a higher price, and we’d like to share why. This particular cultivar is very rare and currently in high demand, while also being difficult to reproduce. Acquiring these unique trees often requires significant time and investment. Despite this, our goal is always to make them more accessible: we continuously work to increase production so that costs can be spread over larger numbers and prices can gradually become more affordable.
Olivia is a sport found on an Ukigumo by Dick van der Maat. It is a dwarf version with compact and layered growth. It has similar colors to Ukigumo, but it stays whiter and will have hints of pink, even throughout the summer.
Sometimes Ukigumo is sold as Olivia to unknowing customers, but both our motherplants come from Dick van der Maat himself and therefore the one and only correct Olivia.
Please note: Olivia, like Ukigumo, may occasionally produce green growth, especially during periods of vigorous growth. This is a normal variation and not a defect or reversion. For best variegation, put the tree in shady areas, let it leaf out as cold as possible, avoid heavy nitrogen fertilization, and allow the plant to mature naturally over time.
