Acer japonicum Falling Flames

This cultivar was discovered as a seedling by Dick van der Maat, originating from a Japonicum he had planted several years earlier. We were fortunate enough to buy it from him, drawn to its elegant structure and amazing fall colour.

We’ve grown it in our nursery for several years to observe its performance, and it has exceeded expectations. It is a vigorous, strong grower with a graceful pendulous habit, thriving even in full sun. And when autumn arrives, the foliage bursts into radiant color, truly lighting up the garden.

It shares similarities with Acer japonicum Green Cascade, but surpasses it in vigor and strength. We have named it "Falling Flames", to reflect how it looks in autumn.
