Acer palmatum Shojo
Acer palmatum Shojo
Acer palmatum Shojo is an upright growing maple with deep purple leaves that holds its color very well during summer. It does not green up in summer, and turns crimson in fall. There is some confusion with the name "Shojo Nomura" but following advice in D.M. Van Gelderen's book "Maples of the World", the only correct name is Shojo.
We bought our motherplant from Esveld, when we were about to head home with another full car of trees, but saw a reasonably vigurous growing red maple amongst discounted plants. We took it along and the rest is history.
If you are looking for a Bloodgood-like maple that doesn't become as large but keep its colour very well, this is the one for you.
