It is actually a hybrid between acer palmatum and acer shirasawanum. The unusual leaves have 7 to 9 lobes. Each lobe is long-ovate, with edges that curl down almost forming a tube. This extraordinary leaf gives an unusual and pleasing effect. The foliage color is also an outstanding deep purple-red which lasts exceptionally well into late summer. Even in full sun the leaves do not burn but later change to a deep, reddish green and bronze. The fall color of crimson completes a year of great color on Trompenburg.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e \u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan class=\"color_15 wixui-rich-text__text\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 16px;\" class=\"wixui-rich-text__text\" data-mce-style=\"font-size: 16px;\"\u003e​It is an upright growing cultivar, that grows quickly and can reach up to 5m high.
